Sport Engineering and Human Performance
Course Description
Discover the applied sports engineering course that takes place at the Lecco campus, and is aimed at high school students from the second year onwards. Entrusted to experts in the sector, the course aims to provide participants with complete and up-to-date skills on technological innovation applied to sports with a practical and experiential approach.
Beyond sports: how engineering changes the game
Technological innovation is revolutionizing the world of sports in the constant search for excellence. From athletic training to the design of new equipment, every aspect is influenced by technological advances. Wearable sensors, movement analysis and digital platforms for data collection and processing are revolutionizing the way athletes train and coaches plan their strategies. Engineering, with its tools and methods, allows for the optimization of the design and planning of sports equipment and their use. This growing integration between sport and technology opens new frontiers to improve performance, prevent injuries and offer increasingly engaging sports experiences.
Course topics
During the week of the course, participants will learn the basic techniques to analyze and improve the design of sports equipment and monitor sports performance.
In the mornings, the course will be oriented towards lessons that will introduce the methodologies for the study of sports equipment and the tools for movement analysis, such as wearable sensors and optoelectronic systems. Some cognitive tests commonly used in the world of sports to evaluate the abilities of athletes will also be presented. The afternoons will be oriented towards laboratory sessions that will allow the students to apply the skills acquired in a 360-degree manner. Furthermore, the students, divided into groups, will have the opportunity to work on their own project that will lead them to characterize a sports gesture and analyze sports equipment under the effect of vibrations.
This STEM course represents a unique opportunity for young people to immerse themselves, through a practical and interactive approach, in the fascinating world of engineering applied to sport and the analysis of athletic performance. An ideal experience for those who want to combine their passion for sports with an interest in applied sciences.
Technical requirements
To take part in the course, you are asked to bring a laptop. For those who have an iPad (models released from 2018 onwards) we invite you to bring it in order to use one of the movement analysis software. It is also suggested to bring a mouse to facilitate interaction with the software that will be used. The installed operating system is irrelevant, but the installation of the Office package is required. For the software packages used in the course, a guided installation will be done by the teacher during the afternoon exercises.
