Discover the Sports Engineering course held at the Lecco campus, aimed at high school students starting in their second year. Led by industry experts, the course aims to provide participants with comprehensive and up-to-date skills in technological innovation applied to sports with a practical and experiential approach.
Technological innovation is revolutionizing the world of sports in the constant pursuit of excellence. From athletic training to the design of new equipment, every aspect is influenced by technological advances. Wearable sensors, motion analysis, and digital platforms for data collection and processing are revolutionizing the way athletes train and coaches plan their strategies. Engineering, with its tools and methods, allows for the optimization of the design and implementation of sports equipment and its use. This growing integration between sport and technology is opening new frontiers for improving performance, preventing injuries, and offering increasingly engaging sports experiences.
During the week-long course, participants will learn basic techniques for analyzing and improving the design of sports equipment and monitoring sports performance.
In the mornings, the course will focus on lectures introducing methodologies for studying sports equipment and motion analysis tools, such as wearable sensors and optoelectronic systems. Some cognitive tests commonly used in sports to assess athletes' abilities will also be presented. The afternoons will focus on laboratory sessions that will allow students to fully apply the skills they have acquired. Furthermore, students, divided into groups, will have the opportunity to work on their own project that will lead them to characterize a sporting gesture and analyze sports equipment under the effect of vibrations.
This STEM course offers a unique opportunity for young people to immerse themselves, through a hands-on and interactive approach, in the fascinating world of engineering applied to sports and athletic performance analysis. It's an ideal experience for those who wish to combine their passion for sports with an interest in applied sciences.
A personal laptop with an up-to-date browser is required. Lab activities will be conducted primarily in Google Colab, with no need to install any other specific software.
A personal Google account is required to access and use Google Colab during the labs.
The use of company laptops or devices is not recommended, as they may have restrictions preventing access to Gmail, Google Drive, or Google Colab. For the final presentation, students may use tools of their choice, such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, or equivalent.
Tablets and iPads may be used, but are not recommended as the primary device; in this case, an external keyboard and mouse are strongly recommended.
