He is a Full Professor at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at the Politecnico di Milano. He obtained his degree in Computer Engineering in 1999 from the same institution, followed by a Master of Science in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2003, he earned his PhD in Computer Engineering and Automation from the Politecnico di Milano.
His main research areas include machine learning, artificial intelligence, perception systems, robotics, computer vision, and signal processing. He is co-author of more than 50 papers in international journals, 25 book chapters, and over 150 contributions to international conferences and workshops.
He has been involved in initiatives such as the Euron Special Interest Group on Good Experimental Methodologies and Benchmarking and is a member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Standards Group for the development of the IEEE P1873/D1 Draft Standard for Robot Map Data Representation for Navigation. He previously served as coordinator of the European project RAWSEEDS, aimed at developing a benchmarking toolkit for multi-sensor SLAM algorithms, and as National Scientific Coordinator of the ROAMFREE project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
