LORENZO BINOSI

He holds a PhD from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering and obtained his Master’s degree from the Politecnico di Milano. His main research focuses on developing new approaches and methodologies for analyzing the security of embedded devices, with particular emphasis on software components. He is also interested in a broad range of cybersecurity topics and, in his spare time, participates in Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions or deepens his knowledge by studying the latest research in the field. He also teaches cybersecurity to students ranging from high school to Master’s level. His research primarily addresses the security of embedded systems, a field that presents several challenges. In particular, traditional techniques used for modern computing systems—such as fuzzing—cannot be directly applied to embedded devices. For this reason, he is investigating new methodologies and approaches, mainly leveraging reverse engineering and automated vulnerability discovery tools, which can be applied during binary analysis, especially for software written in C/C++.
